Carnival Cruise Line has officially started year-round cruises from Norfolk, Virginia. This milestone comes after the arrival of Carnival Sunshine, which recently completed a month-long dry dock. The move solidifies Norfolk’s Half Moone Cruise Center as a permanent cruise hub after years of operating on a seasonal basis.
Norfolk Becomes a Key Cruise Hub
Norfolk’s port is now expected to accommodate around 150,000 cruise passengers annually. To prepare for this expansion, the city invested $12 million in port improvements. These upgrades increased passenger capacity and introduced new amenities, including a debarkation ramp and additional seating areas.
About Carnival Sunshine
The Carnival Sunshine can host up to 3,700 passengers and will primarily offer six- to eight-day cruises from Norfolk. The ship is scheduled to operate from this port through at least April 2027. Travelers will have the opportunity to visit exciting destinations such as The Bahamas, the Eastern Caribbean, and Bermuda.
Strong Partnership Between Carnival and Norfolk
David Candib, Carnival Cruise Line’s Vice President of Port Operations, highlighted the significance of this expansion. He stated:
